The Office of Public Transit was established to assist in the development
of public transit services for the citizens of, and visitors to,
the State of Iowa. Organizationally, the office is part of the Iowa
Department of Transportation’s Modal Division. Because actual
transit services in Iowa are provided by locally organized urban
or regional transit systems, the Office of Public Transit’s
programs focus on administering state and federal funding to these
local transit systems and providing them with technical assistance
on transit issues. The following pages describe the staff of the
Office of Public Transit and the various activities by which they
carry out their mission.
