| InterCity Carriers |
The number of Iowa communities served by scheduled
intercity bus companies has declined over recent decades. This trend
continues with more routes being cancelled or service levels being
reduced due to lower demand and higher costs since 9/11. It is
important to note that where service still exists, it is an
extremely valuable transportation resource for Iowa's citizens who
don't drive or choose not to drive. This service allows them to
reach destinations across the country. Iowa is concerned that these
services remain available and encourages bus companies offering
these services to continue their operations by providing financial
assistance.
